Making Nasi Lemak!

I tried making Nasi Lemak today! Yeap... and its relatively easy. First, look up the recipe on the net... then gather your ingredients. What I got: Rice (organic - cos it comes in smaller package), ikan bilis (Thais love their ikan bilis, comes in every variety you can think of), kacang, coconut milk, cucumber, egg, onions, pandan, and of course sambal ikan bilis (from KL of course). -- Yeah, so I "cheated", you want me to prepare everything from scratch!? Only thing mising here is some ginger (didn't want to buy a big bag from the supermarket). Oh yeah, I cant find anywher to buy pandan leaves (unless you want a whole big bunch from the supermarket). So, I took it from my bouquet of orchids I bought -- its still fresh! So, why not? Ok, now to cook the rice. Add half a cup of rice to 3 tablespoon of santan. Add the pandan leaf and onion (for fragrance). And add bout 1.5 cups water into the microwave-rice-cooker. Stir... Microwave for about 8 minutes... Oppss... not quite done yet. Add extra 3 minutes... Meanwhile, prepare the other ingredients - cucumber, kacang, ikan bilis. Now the rice is done. Now to have my telur mata kerbau. But you'll have to pierce the yolk for the microwave to prevent it from exploding. It still is pretty messy. But this is the results. Then.... add it all together.... and..... TAAADAAAA!!!!....... Oops.... I mean.... Taadaaa!! Yum!!! Of course, it wont be complete without adding some ayam goreng (bought from street stalls). Lessons learnt: 1. Nasi not lemak enough - must put more santan 2. Rice too soggy - less water next time 3. Find some other brand of sambal ikan bilis 4. Find a way to make REAL telur mata kerbau in the microwave

LoL... try removing the egg yolk, cook the egg white, then directly after its cooked adi drop the raw egg yolk onto the egg white and hope that the egg white(or plate) is hot enuff to "semi-cook" the yolk. hahaha...
